Man Goes To Extraordinary Lengths To Protect His Mum

May 22, 2020 by Andrea Leave a Comment

When you love and care for your elderly parents you just want the best for them. And sometimes the best thing for them is a hug! How many times in your life has a hug brightened your day? I’m betting it’s a lot!

This lovely man went to extraordinary lengths to protect his mother from any germs he might be carrying. We don’t know much about them but we can tell she’s elderly and definitely within the age group of people who should be isolating right now to stay healthy.

Photo by Josue Escoto on Unsplash

That’s so hard for many people. Being isolated can be hard emotionally. When your mind isn’t healthy, your body isn’t healthy. Hugs can relieve stress, protect against illness, boost your health, make you happier and even reduce your fears. Close personal contact is so important! Especially right now. So this man created a way he can safely hug his mother.

By hugging her this way he is definitely improving her mood and probably her overall health. What a wonderful thing to do! Have you been able to give or receive many hugs lately? We hope you have and that more are on the way soon!

It’s the sweetest thing! It just might make you cry! Just watch!

I’m not crying you’re crying.🥺🥰 The way we are coming together & showing up for those who are most vulnerable during the pandemic is beautiful. 🤗😍❤️🥰 #SweetestVideoEver #QuarantineCuddleCurtain I need one so I can hug some people I love & need to protect. 🥰

Wasn’t that the sweetest? Definitely not an easy fix, and not something everyone can do. But it sure made her day. You can feel the emotion rolling off of both of them. In fact, it might even be more important for that son to get his hug from his mother at this time.

How have you been able to connect with your friends and family during this time? Any fun ideas you’ve seen? Let us know! Leave a comment or share a video with us. We love to see people happy!

May 15, 2020 by Stef Leave a Comment

Here is a story that will warm your heart and have you craving a little classic rock music. Jon Bon Jovi is a singer-songwriter, actor, philanthropist, and an A+ class act. We can sing along to all of Bon Jovi’s 80s rock songs like “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “It’s My Life,” but would you recognize Jon Bon Jovi behind the dishwashing station in a restaurant?

Like many celebrities, Jon Bon Jovi has been active on social media during the current pandemic, showcasing new music and boosting the morale of his community. And while his fame has certainly brought him fortune, you won’t find him laying low in the lap of luxury during this time.

You will find this down-to-earth guy washing dishes five days a week in JBJ Soul Kitchen, his non-profit community service restaurant. JBJ Soul Kitchen feeds the homeless community and as Bon Jovi says, “The in-need still need to eat, especially now.” Despite being located in one of the hardest-hit communities in the country, Bon Jovi is putting in the hard work.

Go ahead and watch Howard Stern’s interview with the rock star. It’ll give you renewed faith in humanity.

It’s POTLUCK Time!

April 27, 2020 by Susan Leave a Comment

I’ve been looking forward to Some Good News Episode 5 all week long. John Krasinski’s new show has become a highlight in this weird time and this week’s show DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

via GIPHY

This week was all about using food to make a difference. From famous chefs raising money to neighborhood restauranteurs supplying sweets to essential workers and sharing recipes.

Guests in this episode included an awesome assortment of famous cooks. John brought in the help of viewers to host a fun pot luck with a twist!

By enlisting some SUPER famous names in the food world to recreate some of the recipe submissions he received, you’re likely to spend the whole time open-mouthed and amazed. I know I did!

via GIPHY

Do you remember Nana? The adorable tiktok grandma who made her “quarantini”? Well none other than the famous Stanley Tucci took on the challenge of recreating her delectable drink!

via GIPHY

Oh the other hand Martha Stewart was given the task of making Polish pirogies from Sarah’s family recipe.

The celebrated chef David Chang — once known for tirades and tantrums as much as pork buns and noodles — is all grown up, and Season Two of his Netflix docuseries ‘Ugly Delicious’ proves it https://t.co/NrAgECF9PG pic.twitter.com/fwLe7hhadH

And David Chang, founder of Momofuku and star of Ugly Delicious whipped up Shannon’s drool worthy creamy chicken. David’s wife said it was the best thing she’s had this whole quarantine time! And I have to admit I so want to make it too it looks amazing.

via GIPHY

Guy Fieri took on Penny’s scrumptious Dynamite Sloppy Joe recipe perfect for his trademark diner grub. Wait until you see the ridiculous size of the pot he made. Like really who all is he quarantining with? Plus wait until you see the crazy surprise John reveals for him!

The Man Who Saved Prom

April 26, 2020 by Susan Leave a Comment

You’d think that quarantine would effectively kill any thought of Prom 2020, but it turns out that there was indeed another way! John Krasinski got his Some Good News team on the problem and what they came up with was nothing short of spectacular.

Party guests included Chance the Rapper, Billie Eilish, “The Office” co-star Rainn Wilson and The Jonas Brothers. Across the country and around the world high school students were able to join virtually and dance the night away together, but apart.

After enjoying the prom episode, you’ll want to be sure you’ve seen ALL of the episodes! And I’ll be the first to admit – one viewing isn’t enough. I could watch Episode 2 on a loop all. day. long.

Baseball is BACK?! SCORE!

April 26, 2020 by Susan Leave a Comment

This time of year there’s usually a surge toward baseball and softball fields as the weather warms up and our favorite players take the field. Since this year’s a little (okay, a LOT) different many of us are feeling a hole where the baseball should be.

Are You Crying? A League Of Their Own GIF by Top 100 Movie Quotes of All Time - Find & Share on GIPHY

In this week’s episode of Some Good news (see episode 1 here and episode 2 here) John Krasinski, a bit of a magician and purveyor of good news these days wows us all again by bringing back baseball in an awe-inspiring way. He took the difficult situation and turned it into an opportunity to recognize some of the front line medical workers who have helped keep people cared for.

Not only did he recognize the workers, he gave the unit lifetime season passes to go see the Boston Red Sox play! Hilarious to think that John himself has been on the waiting list for 16 years, haha!

After you see this special return to baseball, you’ll want to be sure you’ve seen ALL of the hilarious and heart-warming goodness Some Good News has to offer!

12 Year Old KILLS This Song

April 26, 2020 by Andrea 2 Comments

Every now and then you see a video with a child and their parent (or another adult) singing and it’s sweet and cute and most of the time you see that they’re talented. But this duo will blow your socks off. They sing Ain’t No Mountain High Enough like they own it! There’s nothing cute about this. This 12 year old is going somewhere. And singing with her “uncle” Jo (JoJo Clarke) is clearly bringing up her game.

Let’s talk about Uncle Jo! Holy wow. Can that man sing! I might just fall down the Instagram hole listening to every video he posts! I’ve got a free hour or two so I might as well!

The song Ain’t No Mountain High Enough was written by Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson in 1966. It was first performed and recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in 1967. It became a hit, obviously.

It was then recorded and performed by the Supremes, with Diana Ross, in the 1970s. This version is quite a bit different than the Gaye/Terrell version.

You can find all three versions below. Are you ready to judge which is your favorite version? You might surprise yourself by which you choose after you listen to them all.

I thought I would have chosen the Supremes version but that’s not actually my favorite. After listening to the Gaye/Terrell version I realized that was my favorite. Then I listened to this version by JoJo Clarke and I may just have a new favorite!

LOOK who came to sing with Uncle Jo. I LOVE YOU BRI (I call her my niece)❤️. You’re a star @ya_gurlbri . SHEESH ‼️‼️

A post shared by Joseph (JoJo) Clarke (@jbclarkeeee) on Apr 19, 2020 at 4:28pm PDT

Was I right?? That did not disappoint, did it?

Now listen to Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell sing it.

Now listen to the version by the Supremes. Diana Ross is hard to beat! But I’m not sure this is my favorite version. It’s beautiful, of course.

So do you have a favorite??

The Ultimate Zoom Bomb – She Never Saw this Coming!

April 24, 2020 by Susan Leave a Comment

Zoom calls can be all kids of things. Sometimes they’re fun. Sometimes warm. Sometimes silly. Sometimes boring or too long or every once in a while hilarious because someone doesn’t realize exactly what’s showing up on camera that they might not want everyone to see. But in the case of Episode 2 of John Krasinski’s Some Good News, the Zoom bomb became a magical, amazing, inspiring, incredible thing.

Nine-year-old Emma had tickets to go see Hamilton in April, but because all social gatherings were cancelled, she missed it. Her mom tweeted to say that she’d make to with an at-home viewing of Mary Poppins instead, since it also features Lin Manuel Miranda.

Little did Emma know when she got onto Zoom with John Krasinski that not only would he promise to fly her to New York when it’s all clear and get her in to see the NYC Broadway production, but that he also had a very special, very amazing, very INCREDIBLE surprise in store.

As they’re talking Lin Manuel Miranda, creator and star of Hamilton, appears on screen! As they continue to talk – the rest of the cast from the original production appears as well! They perform Emma’s FAVORITE song, “Alexander Hamilton”.

What follows is nothing short of spectacular. It’s heartwarming and gives us all hope that magic can still happen while we’re distant and that some day we’ll all be able to come out and be together again. It’s a marvel of technology and incredible effort. This team is dedicated to bringing hope and joy and light to the world.

We’re die hard fans of the new show Some Good News. We haven’t missed an episode.

Haven’t seen Episode 1 yet? You’ll want to check it out!

Alicia Keys Drops New Song to Honor Essential Workers

April 24, 2020 by Andrea Leave a Comment

Alicia Keys has just released a new song and video thanking the essential workers who are on the front lines every day. This beautiful video shows her at her piano, playing and singing. Her gorgeous lyrics meet her beautiful voice for a chilling performance.

So many people are stepping up to thank our front line workers. Yesterday we posted a video about a young boy and his family who are creating yard art to surprise healthcare workers. And thousands of people around the world are making masks for works and providing meals and support.

Alicia Keys has been composing her own songs since she was 12 years old. She was first signed with her first record company when she was just 15! Her debut album, Songs in A Minor, was critically acclaimed. You may be most familiar with her number one single “Fallin”. That album sold over 16 million copies and earned her 5 grammy awards.

Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, was very popular as well. She sold over 8 million copies worldwide. You may be most familiar with the song “You Don’t Know My Name” on that album. She then went on to release more albums, accumulate more grammy awards and even host the grammy awards two years in a row.

Her song “Good Job” (video below) celebrates COVID-19 heroes and gives tribute to the health care professionals, teachers, front line workers, parents, first responders and everyone who is working to fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

Boy Inspires Entire City With His Yard Art for Front Line Workers

April 23, 2020 by Andrea 2 Comments

It’s in times of adversity and trial that our true nature starts to shine through. We’re seeing so many positive, caring people right now. People are stepping up to deliver supplies to the elderly. They’re making meals for first responders. They’re donating money to food banks and other organizations helping people who have lost their jobs. People around the world are stepping up to show what they’re really made of.

We found this heartwarming story of a young man who, together with his parents, creates yard art to thank first responders and healthcare workers. Dante and his parents thought of the idea and created a few to begin with and the project has taken on new life. They’re now cutting, painting and delivering lots and lots of these precious wooden hearts to people all around Bellingham, Washington.

Embed from Getty Images

Bellingham is a picturesque town nestled beneath the Mt. Baker foothills on the Puget Sound. Just south of the Canadian border, about 90 miles north of Seattle, Bellingham is a town known for being unique and creative. Dante is certainly that!

His hearts are created by cutting up used pallets. His dad cuts and he nails them together. Then they paint the red heart and his mom writes the message. Dante signs the back of every piece of art. Then, together as a family, they deliver each one as a surprise. What a wonderful surprise!

They attach a phone number to call if someone wants to order one for another person. This way people don’t even know who sent them the heart. I love this concept. Anonymous thanks to the people on the front lines.

We can imagine this working in so many forms and communities. What talents do you have that you could put to use?

Ya Gotta Have Heart

So many people are doing sweet, wonderful things as we all muddle our way through these extraordinary times. In Bellingham we found one family that has created a gesture that comes from the heart. They are my Heroes. Eric's Heroes airs every Wednesday night at 6pm on KOMO News. (Shot by Doug Pigsley, edited by Darrin Tegman and as always, thanks to producer Joan Kinsey ) Send your Heroes ideas to: heroes@komonews.com To see all of our Eric's Heroes stories, see our YouTube channel; https://www.youtube.com/user/KOMOcommunities Eric's Heroes airs Wednesdays, 6pm, KOMO News

Lucha Libre Wrestlers Sew Protective Face Masks

April 23, 2020 by Marissa Leave a Comment

Luchadores sewing protective face masks from Lucha Libre masks may be my new favorite thing.

Embed from Getty Images

We are seeing an increasing need for protective face coverings as we try to get all of this under control. It’s everywhere from talk about what makes the best face mask pattern to even tips for how to make a face mask out of a t-shirt without any sewing.

But this is the first I’ve seen the suggestion to create these personal protection pieces out of Lucha Libre costuming.

Protective Face Mask From Lucha Libre Masks

With the pause on the competition circuit in Mexico, we’re seeing Lucha Libre costumes being turned into protective face masks to combat the spread of Corona.

And frankly, I am in love.

Embed from Getty Images

What makes it even better is that we have the famous wrestlers making these fabulous creations themselves!

Embed from Getty Images

The visual of seeing the full faced luchador at the sewing machine does something to my heart.

Want to make your own face mask?

Here are a bunch of great resources. Whether you have Lucha Libra materials laying around that you can convert or just want to use regular quilting cotton or even old clothes, these can help.

  • How to sew a fabric face mask
  • Great resource for finding face mask supplies
  • Awesome tips for making all different kinds of face mask
  • How to make a no-sew face mask from a pair of leggings
  • How to make a no-sew face mask from a T-shirt or from a Tank Top

I bet even if you didn’t have real luchador fabric to convert you could make a fun Lucha Libre inspired mask with some vinyl like this.

Use the scroller to see even more!

I love how vibrant and beautiful the masks are plus seeing yet another part of the world come together in this way is great.
